Services will be 11:00am Friday August 17, 2018 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church for Mr. Philip L. Greene who entered into eternal rest on August 9, 2018 at Liberty Arms Nursing Facility. Mr. Greene was born September 14, 1921 in Dengern, VA., a son of Newton and Lula Williams Greene. He had been employed as a laborer for Republic Steel for 38 years. He was a faithful member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and was considered as the “Father of the Church, affectionately called “Pop Greene” by the congregation. He married the love of his life the former Beulah Davis, January 19, 1942 and she passed away December 15, 2006.
He leaves to cherish his memories and rejoice in his peace two daughters, Patricia Bellard and Brenda (Carl) Williams both of Youngstown; a son Philip Jr. (Johnnie) Greene of Cleveland; and Rev. J. Dwayne Heard who was like a son to him of Youngstown; three sisters, Shirley (Andrew) Williams of Columbus, Elizabeth Ward and Anna Mae Dawson both of Youngstown; 11 grand-children 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, church family other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife and parents; he was preceded in death by two daughters Cheryl Benson and Kathleen Carter; three sisters Mabel Greene, Leola Steward and Gloria Bankston; five brothers Robert, Floyd, James, Thomas and Chester Greene.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services 10-11:00am at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
