Oscar Lee Akins

 Services will be at noon on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Oscar Lee Akins who entered into eternal rest on Jan. 29, 2019, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Mr. Akins was born May 20, 1934, in Cosgrove, Ga., a son of and Chadie Jones Belvins.  He had been employed as a Foreman for Mahoning County Engineering Department for 38 years retiring in 1997. He was an Army veteran and had owned Akins Market. He loved being with his grandchildren and family and loved working and taking care of others.

He leaves to cherish his memories, five daughters, Kandance Akins of Youngstown, Tara Akins of Kennesaw, Ga., Pamela (Thomas) Stewart of Warren, Sharine Akins-Gregory (Melvin) of Youngstown and April Davidson Kimbrough (Brian) of Warren; three sons, Oscar L. Akins Jr. and Wayne Akins, both of Youngstown, and Freddie Akins of California; a special friend, Ludell Hill of Texas; 13 grandchildren, including Jermany Williams, whom he was helping to rear; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Nakai Akins and Vincent Davidson and his great-grandmother who reared him, Dora Jones.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
