Mrs. Nancye Ann Washington 72, of Youngstown, Ohio departed this life peacefully in her sleep on Monday June 4, 2018 at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home following a long illness.
Mrs. Washington was born on August 31, 1945 in Youngstown, the youngest daughter of Jayroy and Thelma Jackson Anderson. A product of Youngstown’s northside, she was involved early on in several activities as a young lady prior to her family moving to the southside in the early 60’s. Nancye graduated from South High School in 1963 where she was a majorette and a cheerleader. During these years is when she met her high-school sweetheart and husband, James “Jim” Washington, who she married in May of 1965.
Nancye was a member of Reeds Chapel AME Church of Youngstown and had a personal relationship with the Lord. She was a truly devoted wife and mother who loved her family and embraced her role in the growth of her family. Outside of her biological family, Nancye has over the years mentored several youth and has been a positive influence on many. In February 2018, Nancye retired from Youngstown City Schools after 33 years of service. During this time, she worked at West Elementary, Hayes Middle School and Williamson Elementary. She developed several close relationships with co-workers, students, parents and families. Just like her devotion to her family, Nancye was devoted to her job and always strived for perfection and positive results for the students and families that she came in contact with. One of her proudest moments was when she was awarded a Resolution from the City Council of Youngstown for her work in the attendance office at Hayes Middle School.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Robert (Connie) Washington of Farmington Hills, Michigan & Scott Washington of Youngstown; her brother Jayroy Anderson of Youngstown; 4 grandchildren Nikia, Brittni, Isaiah and Amira; several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She will be truly missed by all.
Nancye was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years James; her parents; her step father, James McDonald; her brother, Oliver Anderson; and her sister, Carole DuBose; 3 step brothers, Billy McDonald, Sonny McDonald and Richard McDonald; and one step sister, Barbara Goodwin.
