Mr. Morgan Elton Lewis, Jr was born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 4, 1940 to the late Morgan Elton Lewis, Sr. and Louise Lewis. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1958. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1958 to 1966 and obtained the ranking of Sgt (E-5). While enlisted as a Marine, Morgan worked in the capacity of Cannoneer, Motor Transport Technician, and Helicopter Mechanic/Crew Chief. Post military discharge, Morgan worked at Chrysler Mack Plant, General Motors, and the Detroit House of Correction. On October 29, 1966, Morgan married the former Jean Lucas in Detroit, Michigan.

Morgan obtained a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. He later earned certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and established his own private practice in Dearborn, Michigan, Greenville, North Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina. He was employed as a counselor at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington for 8 years.

Morgan Elton Lewis, Jr, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Wilmington, NC on October 30, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was proceeded in death by his mother, father and sister Dana Lewis Dyer.

Morgan leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Jean Lucas Lewis, son Alan (Dawn) Lewis, daughter Cynthia Tye, son Furkwuan (Asia) Lewis-Ali, son Jeffrey (Tonya) Lewis, son Frederick (Dawn) Lewis Muhammad; sister-in-law’s; Shirley Lucas Fomby, Peggy Lucas, and Brunetta Lucas Bolton, Elaine (Clarence) Williams; brother-in-law Louis (JoAnn) Lucas; 17 loving grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

On any given day, you could find Morgan participating in his life-long passions and love of outdoor activities which he shared with his family and friends. He took great pride in teaching them all about the wonders and beauty of nature. He had many hobbies and was an avid reader. He loved sailing, motorcycling, camping, kayaking, archery and martial arts. He attended motorcycle rallies and toured in Lake George, Vermont, Knoxville, Atlanta, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh and toured from Wilmington to Nova Scotia, Canada.

Visitation will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at L.E. Black, Phillips, & Holden Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11 am. Morgan will be laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.
