Mary Nell Thomas, 79

YOUNGSTOWN - A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
March 16, 2019, at the Price Memorial AME Zion Church in Youngstown.
Mary Nell Thomas 79, departed her life in the comfort of love ones at her
daughter¹s home in Clinton, Md. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019.
Mary Nell Thomas was born on Saturday, April 29, 1939, in Danville, Va. She
relocated to Youngstown, at 16 years old.
She graduated from North High School in 1957. She attended St. Elizabeth
Hospital School of Nursing directly after graduation. Mary achieved her LPN
license in 1959.
She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, devoting over 45 years providing
loving care for all of her patients. She retired in 2004 and continued to
volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
She was a literacy tutor, helping the young children learn how to read at
Youngstown City Schools. She also served on several ministries at Price
Memorial Church.
She enjoyed playing cards, cooking , reading and spending quality time with
family and friends.
Mary Nell will sadly be missed by her son, Hermando Harton Jr; her daughter,
Lori (Julius) Connors-Smith; sister Christine Thomas-Jones; sister-in-laws
Beatrice (Bea) Thomas, Dorothy Thomas, Marjorie Thomas, Violeen Thomas,
Dianne Felder and Jean May; brother-in-laws Lawrence (Brenda) Harton, Arcey
Harton Jr., Larry Harton, Oscar Harton; grandchildren Misty (Genaro) Ortiz,
Herman Christopher Harton, J`aime (Wakeen Smith) Connors, James Connors II,
Chad (Lashanti) Grace, Janay (Raphael White) Connors, Wesley Harton, Matthew
Harton, Clifton Harton, Isabella Harton; great-grandchildren Deni Ortiz,
Anabella Ortiz, Christian Ortiz, Jamari Connors, Jada Connors, Liliana
Ortiz, Ariana Ortiz, and Nevaeh Grace; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, co-workers and friends.
Mary Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mildred Thomas;
late husbands, Walter Watson and Herman Harton Sr.; brothers Chesley Thomas,
Conway Thomas, Edward Thomas, John Thomas, Linwood Thomas, and Wilton
Thomas; sisters Essie Barksdale, Annie Lincoln and Beatrice Thomas.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
