Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center, 2139 Market Street, Youngstown for Mrs. Martha Jean Eldridge, 94 of Youngstown, who entered eternal rest on Friday, April 26, 2019.
Mrs. Eldridge was born February 8, 1925 in Como, Mississippi, a daughter of William and Evalena Calicutt Hardin. A devoted homemaker, Martha was a member of the Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center, and served in many areas of ministry; and was a founding member of three of her son’s churches. She was a self-taught furniture re-upholsterer; and a home chef.
Mother Eldridge leaves to mourn her passing, but to joyfully celebrate her new life with Christ nine children, Rev. Dr. Bennie (Gwen) Hardin, Bobbie Harris, Ruby (Waverly) Cecil, Mary Vera Eldridge, Rev. John Eldridge, Doris Ann Harris, Minnie Eldridge, William Terry Eldridge, and Pastor Kenneth (Co-Pastor Dione) Eldridge; 33 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; four sisters, Eddie Mae Reed, Jessie Dandridge, Christine (Wesley) Jackson, and Mattie B. Whiting; a brother, Ralph (Sarah) Harden; and numerous loving family, church family and friends.
Greeting her at heaven’s gate were her parents; her husband, John Henry, whom she married in 1950 and who passed away June 14, 1994; two daughters, Bertha M. Eldridge and Marie “Penny” Harris; a sister, JoeAda Clay; three brothers, Bennie, Ethel and Theodore Hardin; a grandson, Terrance Cecil; a great granddaughter, Mya Sims; and a great grandson, Jeremy C. Whitfield, Jr.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
