Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Greater Friendship Baptist Church for Mrs. Lula M. Jones, 96, of Youngstown, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Jones was born January 30, 1922 in Montgomery, Alabama, a daughter of Thomas and Viola Jackson Reese. A devoted and loving homemaker, Lula was a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, its Deaconess and Mission Ministries and Church Women United
Her husband, Thomas, whom she married May 13, 1944, passed away September 26, 1967.
She leaves to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her legacy, two children, Viola (Louis) Saulsberry and John M. Jones both of Youngstown; a stepson, Thomas Jones, Jr. of Montgomery; four sisters, Elizabeth Hampton, Eddie Mae Rayford and Mattie Davis all of Anderson, Indiana, and Rosa Hoffman of San Antonio, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Lee Edward Jones; sisters, Ella Reese and Leola Lamphers; a brother, John H. Reese; daughter-in-law, Gloria Jones; grandchildren, Michelle and John Jones.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
