Joan Fuller Obituary

           Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, for Mrs. Joan Edith Fuller, 80, of Youngstown, who transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center – Youngstown, after struggling from burn wounds she received in a house fire at her home in 2015.

            Mrs. Fuller, affectionately known as “Joni”, was born August 16, 1937 in Youngstown, a daughter of James E. Sr. and Arrie Mae Battle Smith.  She was a 1955 graduate of North High School and had attended Youngstown State University.  She was a licensed practical nurse; had worked with St. Elizabeth Hosptial and had worked with the WIC Program for 27 years and MYCAP (YACAC), retiring in February of 2006.  She had also worked at the Model City Clinic as an outreach worker and a nurse at McGuffey Center Clinic with Dr. Burrow, Dr. Tate, Dr. Perry and Dr.Aiellio. Joan was a volunteer worker at McGuffey Center making “baby caps” annually

            She was a member of Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, its.  She was a dedicated member of the Order of Eastern Star; a member and Past Matron of Miriam Chapter #76, Benevolent Grand Chapter O.E.S. for the State of Ohio and its jurisdiction; Grand Nurse of the Benevolent Grand Chapter of Ohio; Grand Officer of Grand Council of Deliberation Ancient Arabic Order of Daughter of Sphinx, State of Ohio; Matron of Gleaner Chapter Daughter of Sphinx; Pastor Matron of Mohab Chapter #78 Heroines; Chief Counselor of Lady Knights- Martha Chapter.  Joan was also a member of the Sharonline Reunion Committee; the N.A.A.C.P.; the Youngstown Traveler’s and B&B Bowling Leagues, with her highest game being 255 and tied with her mother; and the McGuffey Center.

            Joan was married to James Fuller on October 21, 1961 and to this union one son, Jeffrey, was born.

            Joan is survived by her beloved son, Jeffrey Van (Mae) Fuller, Sr. of Youngstown; three sisters, Jean E. Kirk (Timothy) Butler and Josephine Smith both of Youngstown, and Janice E. (Paul)  Wright of Lancaster, PA; a grandson, Jeffrey Van Fuller II; a great grandson, Jae’veion Van Fuller;  and a host of loving family and friends.         

             She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James E. Smith, Jr.

            Friends may call Friday, July 6, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the  L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held by the Order of Eastern Star at 6:00 p.m.; and on Saturday, July 7th from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
