Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 at the St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church for Mr. Jesse Jerome Dukes, 98, of Youngstown, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
Mr. Dukes was born December 20, 2018 in Elloree, South Carolina, a son of Martin and Rachel Simpson Dukes. He was a graduate of the Elloree City Schools. He was employed for over 30 years with Republic Steel, retiring in 1984. Jesse was a dedicated member of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, its choir, Brotherhood Ministry and chairperson of the Culinary Ministry. He was also a member of Donald Lockett VFW Post 6488, where he served as chef, and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, western movies and was an avid fan of all Cleveland sports teams. He was a WWII U. S. Army veteran.
He leaves to forever cherish his memory four children, Ode (Nalungo) Aduma and LaVonnie (Henry) Whitlow both of Youngstown, Jesse (Michele) Dukes of Stone Mountain, GA, and Shirley (Lorenzo) Rashid of Cleveland Hgts; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter; a brother, Warren Dukes of Holly Hill, SC; a sister, Willie Pelzer of Elloree, SC; and a host of family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings; and two granddaughters, Enaya Aduma and Jada Brooks.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
