Services will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home for Mr. James Louis Mattison, 95, of Youngstown, who transcended to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
Mr. Mattison, affectionately known as “Jim” was born June 7, 1923 in Conway, Arkansas, the son of Henry Sloan Sr. and Callie Berry Mattison. He attended public school in Arkansas, before coming to Youngstown as a young adult. He had been employed at J & L Steel, retiring after 35 years of service. He also worked at the Ohio Security System in Warren and was owner/operator of Mattison Sweeper Repairs. He was a member of Bethel Church of God In Christ, where he served as a Deacon, usher, and on the Men’s Ministry. He was a former member of the Masonic Order. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and visiting his sisters. Jim was a World War II Army veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughter, Monica (Derrick) Cobbin of Hubbard; a son, James Mattison, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; a stepson, Tommy Carlisle of Boardman; two sisters, Rosie Lee Lee of Kansas City, Kansas, Oletha Rogers of Milwaukee, WI; a brother, Henry Mattison, Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Holt; a brother, Detroy Mattison; and two sisters, Dora Mae Houston and Mara Lee Hall.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
