Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church for Mr. James Pierce Echols, Jr., 87, of Youngstown, who transitioned from his earthly home to his new heavenly home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
Mr. Echols was born September 3, 1930 in Youngstown, a son of James P. Sr. and Louise Collars Echols. He attended Youngstown City Schools and worked as a welder at L. T. V. Steel, retiring in the early 1980’s. After retiring from the steel mill, he became a transport driver for CCS Transportation; a handyman for those who needed his help; and a custodian at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He was also a member of Mt. Gilead and its usher ministry. He enjoyed working on automobiles and taking care of lawns.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his son, Tyrus Cherry of Columbus; two sisters, Mary P. Allen and Catherine Williams both of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Frank, Robert and Ralph Echols, and Carl Jackson; sisters, Eron Curry, Mildred Jordan, Thelma L. Goldston, Elizabeth McMillan, Carol Echols and Jessie Echols.
Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
