Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23,  2017 at Rising Star Baptist Church for Mr. Jabrail Donnell Poindexter, Sr., 43, of Akron, who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Poindexter, affectionately known as “Jay”, was born August 15, 1974 in Youngstown, a son of Kevin and Blonda Grace Poindexter.  He was a 1992 graduate of The Rayen School and excelled in basketball and football, and attended Akron State University.  He was employed as a health care consultant at the Louis Stokes VA Hospital in Cleveland.  He was a  former member of Union Baptist Church where he sang in the choir; and played with the Little Hardhats and the Northside Knights.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, sports and was an avid San Francisco 49’s fan; but most of all, he loved playing with his children.  Jabrail was a U. S. Navy veteran.

He leaves to mourn his passing, but rejoice in his peace, his parents, Kevin and Blonda of Lowellville; his children, Journey, Jabrail Jr., and Jayden Poindexter, Travail and Taysia Miller whom he reared; two brothers, Kevin Poindexter, Jr. of Columbus, and Isaiah Poindexter of Youngstown; and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Mabel Poindexter, and Wallace and Chilita Grace; and uncles, Lee Poindexter, Jr. and Wallace Grace III.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
