Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Ham Jackson, Jr., 83, of Youngstown, who entered eternal rest on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center – Youngstown.
Mr. Jackson was born October 19, 1935 in Sprague, Alabama, a son of Ham Sr. and Fannie Jackson. He grew up in Alabama and moved to Long Island, NY in 1956. He was a hard worker, having worked as a chef in his early years, a landscaper, a florist, a custodian at the Temple Beth El, and had worked at the Welder Plant. He enjoyed the outdoors, playing the guitar and piano. He also was an avid sports fan of basketball, baseball, track and boxing, which is how Mohammed Ali became his favorite boxer.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in his peace, his devoted wife, the former Elder Bessie Bunting, whom he married July 5, 1957; four daughter, Elder Debbie Jackson-Woodside of Hempsted, NY, Missionary Patricia Jackson of Bellville, MI, Elder Brenda (Pastor Arthur, Jr.) Jackson-Mackey of Roosevelt, NY, and Janet Jackson of Youngstown; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Hilda Jackson of Youngstown and Naomi Jackson of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Ham was greeted at Heavens gate by his parents; beloved daughter, Fannie Mae Jackson; brothers, Thomas, Jethro, and Rayfield; and sisters, Sarah Jordan, Gaylena Edwards, Ruby Samuels and Rebecca Logan.
Visitation will be Friday, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
