Services will be 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Antioch Baptist Church for Mrs. Gertrude Fitzgerald, 99, of Youngstown, who entered eternal rest on Friday, April 19, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born June 28, 1919 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Bell Jackson Houzah. A loving homemaker, Gertrude was a devoted member of the Antioch Baptist Church, its choir, Sunday School and Bible study. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and helping to take care of others. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Gertrude leaves to cherish loving memories, a grandson, Darren (Carolyn) Christian; three great granddaughters, Rashonda Page, Ratina Phillips and DeShayla Christian; a stepson, Jerome (Christina) Givens; the Houzah family of Rolling Fork, VA; the Anderson family of Maryland; the Jackson and Harmon families both of Mississippi; the Montgomery family of Lawton, OK; the Grayer, Logan and Bailey families all of Vicksburg, MS; the Whitehead family of McDonough, GA and Richland MS; the Taylor family of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie B., who passed away in 1974; a son, Melvin Bailey; two brothers, O. C. (Heloise)Webster and James Houzah; three sisters, Lillie Bell Young, Bernice Bailey and Arrmese Mickey.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
