Elder George Payton Jones

Services will be11:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church for Elder George Payton Jones, 75, of Youngstown, who transcended to his Heavenly home on October 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Elder Jones, lovingly known as “Porgie” to many, was born September 6, 1943 in Youngstown, a son of Sloan Sr. and Eva Williams Jones. He attended South High School and was a U. S. Army veteran.  He was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church.   He worked 15 years at General Electric and also worked at General Motors Lordstown, retiring after 10 years.  He and his wife, owned and operated Altha Janes Baked Goods in the city of Youngstown for 7 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories and to rejoice in his peace, his loving wife of 46 years, the former Altha Jane Mobley; his children, Ethel Lynn Jones, Quincy (Sabrina) Jones, both of Youngstown and Christopher George (Ta’Wana) Jones of Ramstein, Germany; his siblings, Sloan (Geraldine) Jones Jr. of Mineral Ridge, Beverly (Elder Condridge) Smith of Warren, Atty. Reginald (Winsome) of Silver Springs, MD; and Donna (Dr. Kenneth) Cowens of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren: Lance Elliott Jones, Quincy Jones Jr., Byron David Jones, Quavon Jones; and a host of other family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred E. Feagins and a brother, Roy Lee Jones.

Calling hour will be Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangement entrusted to the L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden funeral home.
