Charles Edward Mabry

Mr. Charles Edward Mabry was born March 29, 1931 in Mississippi, a son of Lucinda Black and Mister Jenkins.  He transitioned from this life on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Ohio Living Park Vista Hospice.

            At a very early age, he moved to Youngstown and was reared by his aunt and uncle John and Henrietta Black Mabry.  He attended South High School in the mid 1940’s and was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 40 years.  He met the love of his life, Wilhelmenia Davis, whom he married July 16, 1956 in Warren, and to this union three sons were born.

            He unselfishly took care of his family by working construction and was an entrepreneur having started his own painting company in the local area.

            He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Wayne (Katherine) Mabry, Sr. of Youngstown; ten grandchildren, Jaclyn Mabry and Denise Bob of Ardmore, OK, Wayne Jr. and Wynton Mabry of Youngstown, Charles Mabry Jr., Tanisha Mabry and Mikol Mabry of Spokane, WA, Marvin Mabry Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Brian (Jessekia) Mabry and Taylor Stephens of Akron; 13 great grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Applewhite-Dorsey and Ora L. Winfrey of Los Angeles, CA, Geneva Faulkner of Spring Valley, CA, Rubystein Rayborn and Edna Applewhite of Nesbitt, MS; four brothers, James Howard Applewhite of Memphis, TX, Dorris and Terry Applewhite of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

            Besides his aunt and uncle who reared him and his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Charles M. Mabry Sr. and Marvin E. Mabry Sr.; four brothers, Sonny, Morris, Nelson and Darnell Applewhite; and a sister, Sarah Lee Johnson.

            Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m.
