Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Union Baptist Church for Mrs. Catherine Juanita Allison, 90, of Boardman, who transitioned from this earthly home to her heavenly home on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center – Youngstown.

Mrs. Allison was born April 9, 1928 in Panama City, Florida, a daughter of Frank Powell and Martha Conoly.  She was a  graduate of The Rayen School, attended Florida A & M, and received her BS degree in Education from Youngstown State University. She was a teacher with Youngstown City Schools – Elm, Washington & West Elementary for 42 years, retiring in 1992.   She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, its nurses guild, and was a Sunday School teacher.  She was a founding member of Delta Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at the former Youngstown College (now known as Youngstown State University).  She was a member of the former “Canary 5” singing group; the Socialite Bridge Club; and the Order of Eastern Star.  She enjoyed traveling and was the secretary/treasurer of the American Negro Police Travel Association.  Catherine followed her sons in football, basketball, track and baseball.  She was an avid Cleveland Brown and Indians fan.

A virtuous Christian woman, Catherine would help everyone in need.  She lived, talked and walked the life of “love”.

She leaves to mourn her passing, but to rejoice in her peace, two sons, Dr. Bennie (Fawn) Allison with whom she made her home in Boardman, and Herbert Biff Allison of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren, Kena (Dana), Herbert (Angela), Ashley, Chez (Tiiona), Alexis, Amber, Isiah, Austin and Alexandrea; 9 great grandchildren; cousins who were like sisters to her, Dr. Lois B. Sellers and Flora E. Cannon both of Spanish Fort, Alabama; brother-in-law, Jan (Vera) Allison of Gary, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Carol Walden of Youngstown and Gwendolyn Ross of Campbell; nieces, Yvette Walden, Tamarra Jones, Leola (Michael) Brown, Evelyn and Rosetta Ross; nephews, Derrick Walden, Tillman Bevly, Kevin Ross and Edward Richardson; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, whom she married in 1950 and who passed away in July 1987; her brother, George Conoly; a granddaughter, Alysia Allison-Jordan; and a cousin who was like a sister, Arcelean Hampton; nephew, James Hill; niece, Jacqueline Williams; sisters-in-law, Martha Harrison and Freda Patton.

The family wishes to send a special “Thank You” to Gwendolyn Ross her devoted caregiver, Comfort Keepers, Inc., Ohio Living Hospice Palliative Care, Agency on Aging and Visiting Physicians Association.

Friends may call Tuesday from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church, where the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will hold  a service at 10:00 a.m.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
