Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Union Baptist Church for Mrs. Berthalene Covington Buggs, 80, of Youngstown, who departed this life Monday, November 5, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Buggs was born September 15, 1938 in Girard, Ohio, a daughter of Rev. Ernest and Helen White Covington. She was a graduate of Girard High School and a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had been employed with Park Vista Nursing Home and Gateways to Better Living, retiring after many years of service. She was a member of Union Baptist Church; and enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping, traveling, the Cleveland Brown, and being with her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Edward J. Buggs, Jr. of Youngstown, whom she married April 2, 1960; two children, Edward J. (Vickie) Buggs III of Columbus and Jonathan D. Buggs of Youngstown; a stepson, Kelly (Brenda) Anderson of Youngstown; a brother, John “Bucky” Covington; sister, Emaline Brogdon Smith of Campbell; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Ernest Covington; mother and stepfather, Helen and Morgan Brogdon Sr. who was very instrumental in her life; three brothers, Morgan Brogdon, Jr., Robert Hughes, and James Covington; a sister, Doris Covington; and a nephew, Burnett Hughes.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
