Robbie Lumpkin Obituary

            Mrs. Robbie Lumpkin, 83 of Youngstown, departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Hospice House with her family at her side.

            Mrs. Lumpkin was born January 3, 1941, in Camilla, Georgia, a daughter of Robert and Marie Moore Gaines.  Robbie was a member of the former Morning Star Baptist Church where she served in the choir, on the Nurses’ Guild and the usher board.  Following the fire that destroyed Morning Star, she joined Restoration Ministries of Youngstown.  At Restoration, she was called “Mother Lumpkin”.  She enjoyed watching movies, the Young & Restless, Bold and Beautiful, the Price is Right and Family Feud.  She also liked to travel, going to the casino and being with her family.

            She leaves to mourn her passing, but to rejoice in her eternal peace, her children, Gloria D. (Lester Jr.) Martin of Howland and Gwendolyn J. (Damon) Griggs of Boardman; her sister, Annie Ruth Toombs of Camilla, Georgia; three grandchildren, Alicia Martin, Stefani Stubbs, Cameron Stubbs; a half sister, Bonnie Tolbert of Hudson; brothers-in-law, Julius “Bill” (Dora) Lumpkin and Antonio “Tony” Lumpkin; sisters-in-law, , Hettie Mae Jackson, Claretha Saffold, Almaree (David) Laster, Portia Harvey, Rosetta Lumpkin, Oria Lumpkin and Juanita Lumpkin; godsister, Shirley Griffin; niece who is like a sister, Patricia Robinson; and a host of other family and friends.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eddie L., whom she married December 26, 1959 and who passed away September 23, 2013; sisters, Lettie C. Clark, Rebecca Laws, May Lizzie Sheppard, Vernita Oliver and Myrtle Ross; brothers, Cleveland Gaines, Joseph Gaines, Hayford Nathaniel Gaines an Benjamin Gaines.

            Visitation will be Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.  Celebration of Life services will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Guests are asked to wear masks.
