Funeral services for Mrs. Zantha Mae Ellis, 81, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Price Memorial AME Zion Church, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 13 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Mrs. Ellis was born November 12, 1936, in Brooksville, Miss., a daughter of Oscar Sr. and Ora Lee Jones Tate. She was joined in matrimony with Garrett Ellis on September 14, 1957 and worked at General Electric for 15 years. Mrs. Ellis was a faithful member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, where she served as the lead singer in the choir. She found joy in gardening, cooking great southern meals, and completing Sudoku puzzles. She will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Ellis leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years; four sons, Garrett Ellis Jr. of Campbell, Troy Ellis of Zanesville, Leonard and Marlon Ellis, both of Youngstown; two daughters, Brenda (Gregory) Guilford of Cleveland and Calandra Black of Youngstown; three sisters, Bernice Gatson of Chicago, Ora Miller of Kansas and Irma Morgan of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two good friends, Barbara Williamson and Jessie Judge; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Oscar, Finis, John and Thomas Tate.
Friends may call on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
