Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, 718 Albert Street, for Mr. Vollie Edward Fant, Jr., 87, of Youngstown, who entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home.

            Mr. Fant, affectionately known as “Eddie”, was born October 19, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Vollie E. and Catherine Burton Fant.  He was a 1949 graduate of The Rayen School .  He worked for 36 years at the LTV Steel, retiring as a crane operator.  He was also a deputy sheriff and worked security for Western Reserve Transit Authority for 13 years.  He was a member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church, it’s male chorus, trustee and usher ministries.  He was a member of the Buckeye Sheriff Association, the National Law Enforcement Agency and N.A.A.C.P.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

            He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, a son, Ricardo C. Fant of Youngstown; a daughter, Brenda L. (Floyd, Jr.) Showers of Youngstown;; three grandchildren, Amber Fant and Minister Barbara Fant both of Columbus and Lonnie (Stacieey) Showers of Youngstown; three great grandchildlren, Tara L. Barnes-Fant, Lonnie A. Showers and Salvadore Battles; a special cousin who was like a sister to him, Corrine Taylor of Youngstown; a dear friend, Emma Nelson; and a host of family and friends.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Lonnie Bell Woods, whom he married November 24, 1954 and who passed away November 23, 1979; his daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Fant; and  two sisters, Cleo F. Collins and Bernice R. Bell.

            Friends may call from 10:00  to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
