Susie Patterson DeHart., 95, of Youngstown, Ohio was born in Welch, West Virginia on July 7, 1922. She saw the sun set peacefully on November 8, 2017 @ 4:00 a.m. She was a magnificent woman and wise beyond her years. Susie DeHart graduated from Aracoma High School in West Virginia and continued her education to become a registered nurse at Grace Hospital in Welch, West Virginia. She was dedicated in her field of nursing but received the greatest joy being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was a giver of wisdom, love, kindness, and understanding. She was a bright light to her family and was filled with energy. Susie DeHart was fondly called “The Energizer Bunny.” She was a mentor, counselor, and example for all that needed to see the “true significance of a woman.” Susie Patterson married James Edward DeHart Sr. on July 29, 1944. They were married for 72 years. From this union came 4 children: James Jr., Juanier, Thursenia, and Armetia.

Susie DeHart was an Elk of Naomi Temple No. 124 of Youngstown for over 30 years. She held various offices. She was elected Democratic County Central Committee in Ward 2, Democratic Precinct Committee in Ward 2, and Official Challenger all over 25 years. She gave back to her community as often as possible. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts; Leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts; PTA Mom; active member of the McGuffey Center; Sharonline Reunion committee and a plethora of other committees and organizations.

Susie DeHart came to Youngstown, Ohio in 1944 and she and her husband joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Christian experience. She received God as a young woman and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church until her illness and death. She was an active member of the church in organizations: Ever Ready Chorus, Nurses Guild, No. 2 Missionary Society, Sunday School, Usher Board and Souvenir Program Committee for the dedication of the new Mt. Zion Baptist Church on March 1, 1964. She sang God’s praises until the day God took her home. Music was an intricate part of her life. Susie DeHart loved singing with her daughter Cina, as the sounds of Angels whispered throughout the house.

She made a difference in the lives of everyone she touched. The sound of her voice lifted your spirit and gave you the courage to keep following the path of your dreams. Susie DeHart was a spiritual and dedicated woman that lived her life by saying, “Of all the treasures life may bring, family always meant the most.”

Susie DeHart was preceded in death by her husband, James E. DeHart Sr.; mother-Clara King Patterson, father-Henry Lee Patterson; 2 brothers: Jessie and John; 3 sisters: Henrietta Jackson, Willie Mae Berger Jackson and Robbie Mae  Overton Small and a great grandson, Cameron DeHart.
