Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church for Mrs. Sandra Pearl Heard, 77, of Youngstown, who departed this life Sunday, October 8, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Heard affectionately known as “Grandma Sandy”, was born April 25, 1940 in Springfield, Massachusetts, a daughter of Teddy and Pearl Walker Brown.  She was a 1958 graduate of Commerce High School in Massachusetts, and had been employed for 35 years with Delphi Packard Electric, retiring in the late 1990’s.  She was married to the late William A. “Ponnie” Heard on July 4, 1958, and to this union four children were born.

She was a member of the Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, itsTotal Praise Choir, food and culinary ministries.  She enjoyed dancing, sewing, watching TV and cooking.  Sandra was  considered “Grandma” to many, and she especially loved her family and many friends.

She leaves to mourn her passing, but to rejoice in her peace, her children, Brian (Antionette) Heard, Linda Heard, Tiffany (Brian) Benson all of Youngstown, and a dear friend whom she reared, Vanna Kennedy Tootle of Jacksonville, Florida; a brother, Theodore Brown of Springfield, Massachusetts; her daughter-in-law, Wendolyn Heard of 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; a special long-time friend, Ernest Kennedy; a god-daughter, London Toney of Cleveland; god-sister, Reba Thomas Murray of Youngstown; special friends, Patty Cobbin, Judy Gidney, Jean Rodgers all of Youngstown, and Betty Z of Warren; and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael D. Heard Sr.; great grandson, Zacciar James; and best friend, Flossie McDonald.

Visitation will Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
