James A. Pack Sr., 82, passed away October 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

James Pack Sr. was born August 5, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a son of the late Abraham and Ethel Starks Pack.

He attended high school in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. He was employed with General Electric as a stem Mechanic retiring in 1994 after 23 years of service. He was also the first African American manager for Standard Oil Company and helped build the Ohio Indiana Turnpike. Mr. Pack enjoyed working on cars, dancing and socializing with his family.

James Pack Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 34 years, Helen Pack, whom he married October 3, 1981; a sister, Gloria Mason; three sons, James (Annette) Pack Jr., Ralph (Alicia) Pack and Roger (Patricia) Pack, all of Youngstown; three step-daughters, Shelia (Jantz) Clinkscale of Orange Park, Florida, Marci (Ben McClendon) Jones of Youngstown and Lujuana (Kenneth) Foreman of Portland, Oregon; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his best friend, Darrell Johnson of Youngstown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends in Louisiana and Youngstown.

James was preceeded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Holly Pack; four sisters, Eliza Pack, Eleonore Pack Shivers, Shirley Mae Pack Foster and Brenda Pack Jackson; and one grandson, Donte Pack.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to services at church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
