Ida Beatrice Levels

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, a host of heavenly angels along with her husband Deacon Joseph A. Levels, came to their home in Diamond, Ohio to escort  Mrs. Ida Beatrice Levels to her new mansion in the sky.

Mrs. Levels was born October 24, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky, a daughter of Fred and Ida Buchanan Edmondson.  She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church, its Christian Education Director, and organized the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School ministries and trained the teachers.  She was also a member of the Mother’s Board, Deacon’s wife working Baptismal and Communion services; and former member of the Usher’s Ministry.  She served on the Portage County Community Action Council and tutored at the Southeast School in Portage County.  Ida was an instrumental community activist, creating a library for black children in the gated community of Diamond where she and her family lived, as well as getting a park built for the children to play. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memories and honor her legacy, her daughter, Yalonda A. McClair of Denver, CO; four sons, Elder Joseph H. and his wife Betty J. of Flint, MI, Kenneth A. and his wife, Barbara J. of Wildomar, CA, Larry and his wife, Vera D.  of Howland, and Benjamin and his wife, Theresa of Diamond; a sister, Anna Bell (Ralston) Thornton; 32 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, church family and friends.

She was greeted at Heaven’s Gate by her parents; her husband, Deacon Joseph A. Levels whom she married March 10, 1944 and who passed away May 21, 2017; her daughter, Toni Lynn Levels; a son, James R. Levels; two sisters, Anna B. Calhoun and Freddie Buchanan; five brothers, William Burl Edmondson, Wilbert W. Thornton, Johnnie Edmondson, Fred Edmondson, Jr. and Harry Edmondson.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church.  Funeral services will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m.  Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
