Mr. Ferguson was born June 26, 1916, in Toms Creek, VA., a son of Grant C. and Sarah L. Pierce Ferguson. Following high school graduation, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War.  He and his family resided in Morgantown, WV, as he completed his higher education.  He earned a BA in Education, an MA in Education and a Masters in Social Work and worked as a social worker for the Child Guidance Center and as a barber at John English’s barber shop at Westlake Crossing in Youngstown, OH.   He made his home here with his wife, Ida B. Ferguson (deceased) and family from 1957 until 1966; at which time he relocated to Detroit, MI, where he worked as a social worker for the State of Michigan.  Mr. Ferguson returned to Youngstown to assist his daughter with a business venture in 1994. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Mr. Ferguson was honored at the 2015 A.C.T.I.O.N. banquet where, he received many accolades and citations from city and state officials, along with President Barak Obama.

To cherish his memory he leaves two daughters, Marva Nathan of Boston, MA, and Nicolette “Nikki” Morgan of Youngstown, OH. His youngest daughter, Monessa (Tinsley) Crabb, of Pittsburgh, PA, preceded him in death. He also leaves an adored younger brother, Lucian Ferguson from Cinnaminson, NJ, and a beloved niece, Dorothy Locklear of Columbus, OH along with eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends in the area.
