Erlene Freeman Lockett, 85, died Wednesday, April 11th, 2018 at her home in New City, New York.
From her birth in Youngstown, Ohio on October 28, 1932, up until her death she blessed all those around her with her smile, quick wit, tremendous sense of humor and amazing arguments. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Ohio and after graduating high school embarked on a life of work ranging from Bell Telephone operator to owning a tax preparation business. She and her husband, the late Dr. Arnold W. Lockett, traveled extensively and lived around the US and abroad in India and Afghanistan. She was the third daughter of Leroy Freeman Sr. and Millicent McKay Freeman. She was a constant joyful, yet feisty presence in every community she touched the world over.
She was preceded by her husband of 52 years Arnold W. Lockett, her parents, her sisters Susie Long and Dorothy Benefield, her brother Leroy Freeman, Jr. and her son Donald Lockett.
She is survived by her brother James Freeman, sister-in-law Linda, her sons Bruce and Michael Lockett, daughters-in-law Denora and Michelle, and grandchildren, DeAndra, Courtney, Jason, Brandon, Jade, Darius, Aliana, August and great-grandchildren Morgan and Brayden, as well as countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
All are invited to celebrate her life at a wake this Saturday, April 14th at Hannemans Funeral Home in Nyack, NY. Final funeral services will be on Monday, April 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
