Alphonse Allen Sr.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Greater Morris Chapel A. M. E. Church for Mr. Alphonse Allen, Sr., 87 of Sharon, PA, who entered eternal rest on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Sharon Regional Hospital.

Mr. Allen was born November 8, 1930 in McComb, Mississippi, a son of A. B. and Alberta Godbolt Allen.  He had worked over 30 years as a welder with the General American Steel Company, retiring in 1984.  Alphonse met the former Carrie Lee Paige, and were married on March 13, 1955.  To this union four children were born, Donna, Alphonse Jr., Kelly and Kirsten.  He was a member of Greater Morris Chapel A.M.E. Church in Farrell, PA, where he formerly served on the Steward Board.  He was a member of the Twin City Elks of Farrell PA. Lodge 187, where he was former Exalted Ruler, District Deputy NW District of PA State Association, Past State President of PA State Association, Inner Guard for Natioal District Deputy of Council, District Deputy Council for NW PA Trustees, Commissioner Officer Club Trustee for Club #3, Educational Department Chairman of NW District of PA and member of PA State Association.  He was an avid Bowler and Sports enthusiast.  He enjoyed watching “Sports Center” and all Pittsburgh Sports Teams.  He was a U. S. Army Veteran.

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his wife, Carrie, of Sharon; children, Donna Allen-Rosemond Esq. and her husband, Harold, and Kelly Allen all of Pittsburgh, PA., Rev. Dr. Alphonse Allen Jr. and his wife, Fran of Xenia, Ohio, Kirsten Allen of Sharon, PA, and Althea (Myron) Johnson of Farrell; two sisters, Doris Butler of Boque Chitto, Mississippi and Edna (Willie) Holmes of Austin, TX; step sisters, Marie Matthews and Sally Pinson both of Sharon, PA; 9 grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Bobby and Johnny Miller whom he helped to rear; a devoted friend and caregiver, Pauline Cornelius of Wheatland, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; and his brother, William “Tank” Allen.

Visitation hours will be Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Greater Morris Chapel, 926 Darr Avenue, Farrell, PA 16121.  The Twin City Elks Lodge will hold memorial services at 10:30 a.m.
