Mr. Albert “Larry” Tolbert Sr., 65, of Youngstown, Ohio departed his life on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Healthcare Center surrounded by his loving family.  He was the son of the late Nathaniel and Josephine Strozier-Tolbert.

Mr. Tolbert was valedictorian of East High School, class of 1969. He holds records in track for the 1-mile and 2-mile run. He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force and was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service award Ribbon, the Philippine Defense Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.  After serving he was honorably discharged.

He rededicated his life to Christ and attended Phillips Chapel COGIC. He was a county worker for the Mahoning County Job and Family Services. Mr. Tolbert enjoyed writing, dancing, listening to the Temptations, grilling, cooking, skiing, fishing and helping others. He was a die-hard Cleveland Brown’s fan and will be deeply missed.

He leaves one son, Albert Larry (Monica) Tolbert Jr.; two sisters, Fannie Barnett and Charlie Mae Groome; one brother, Therow Neail; a niece, Rachelle (Gregg) Roberts; his favorite niece, Josie, affectionately known as Jo-Jo; three nephews Dwain, Melvin and Theo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his best friend, Blaine Currie; and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Gibson; and one nephew, Roberto Groome.

You could always find a notepad, pen and the most recent copy of the Daily Bread in Mr. Tolbert’s possession at any given time.

One fond memory to take with you was Uncle Larry’s favorite saying, “God bless.”
